Agony is an animal "shoot'em up". Transformed into an owl (publisher Psygnosis' mascot), you must fight hordes of evil creatures in a world somewhat glaucous, reminiscent of Shadow of the Beast.

Each stage is preceded by a sumptuous loading screen. During the game, beautiful graphics parade on several layers. The character animations are also very successful. But amid the deluge of visual effects, projectiles launched by the owl, static and monochrome (probably to accelerate the rate of fire) do stain with the rest.
Musically, we note the beautiful piano intro. Then, the "orchestral" themes quickly become annoying.
Finally, the absence of 2-player mode and the low number of bonuses make action rather monotonous.
