As you return from who knows what mission in space, you receive a distress call from the planet Phoebus: A mad scientist named Triax kidnapped a group of researchers. You must save them.
As soon as you land on that planet, Triax gets aboard your ship and steal the "destinator", a device without which you can not take off. . . .

Exile was designed as a pure exploration game: no life, no levels. You move freely in an unknown world, flying with your "jetpack". In addition, you have a teleporter to return to places previously marked (r key).
Particular attention was given to what is now called the "physics engine", namely, all items are subject to forces (gravity, inertia) and can be carried away by a gust of wind or the blast of a grenade.

You will meet many creatures, sometimes friendly, sometimes nasty, and puzzles of varying complexity. These puzzles will open new routes leading to Triax's laboratory.

Fighting occupy a secondary role. You will find different weapons but it is sometimes easier to use cunning to get out of a dangerous situation.

The handling is somewhat original. You use the space bar to open a menu, select an icon by moving the joystick and press. In the thick of a fight it is not obvious, especially if you want to pick up a grenade to defuse it . . . You can also play with the keyboard but the button configuration is not practical at all and you cannot change it. This is the big flaw of this game.
