A group of cyber-terrorists, called WWW, commanded by a certain Dr. Wily is behind many incidents. They took control of electronic devices with their viruses to conquer the world. Lan and Mega Man step in. . . .
The game takes place in two stages. In the real world, we control Lan. He can interact with people and "plug" into many objects through his PET. At that time, he passes the baton to MegaMan.EXE, who evolves in the virtual world. It is there that we fight viruses.
The adventure part is pretty dull. The characters are not very interesting, neither are the "puzzles". That said, we are quickly carried away by the game as it is accesssible and with no downtime.
The battle system may seem simplistic at first, but interest increases significantly after having collected some "chips".
The battle chips determine our actions. These are small programs (usually weapons) that Lan integrates into his PET to help Mega Man. Whenever we encounter a virus, 5 chips are selected at random among the 30 that we have previously saved. Some can be combined with each other, making devastating combos. The combinations are infinite and you will constantly have to collect new battle chips, which greatly extends the game's lifespan.
The music is nice (moreso when it stops actually) but the sound effects are a little too sluggish for my taste.
Finally, note that even though most navis are inspired by the classic series, there is no reference to former episodes.
