I love the illustrations in this game, typical of ’70s and ’80s sci-fi, they remind me of the Malabar comics (Les Monstres de l’espace). Everyone has their own references, right?
If I understood correctly, this top-down multidirectional shoot’em up pits you against an entire planet. The ground is covered in wriggling organs (gross), mouths, eyes, tentacles… Your job is to fly over the area and bomb anything that sticks out.
The weapon upgrade system is rather strange: you collect DNA trapped in bubbles and then place it in an incubator (the inflatable pool thing in the third image). A few moments later, the DNA turns into a bonus (which you can pick up). You’ll also find humanoids in distress, represented by … naked dancing women, who you’re supposed to drop into the inflatable pool in the same way, I believe.
In the end, the chaotic and repetitive action, coupled with the jerky animation (the price of screen scrolling in four directions), ruined my enjoyment.
If you’re interested in the family tree, you could trace its ancestry back to a certain Sinistar (arcade, 1982). As for its descendants: Voidrun (2019).
