“… Yes, and especially for the listeners who are just joining us now … in a word, Claude Guillaumin, it’s war!

A bunch of despots have once again bitten off more than they can chew and are planning to scorch the battered remnants of the planet with a laser cannon! It’s up to you to stop them, by collecting and assembling the five pieces of a neutron bomb, the only thing capable of taking down your enemy’s ultimate weapon. Funny enough, they’re about to use it on you…

No fewer than six rolling and flying vehicles are controllable simultaneously! You’ll also be dealing with logistics, assigning tasks to your teams of scientists and engineers (research and development). Be sure to plan for equipment and ammunition resupply, as well as building tanks and planes… This game is a clever mix of action and real time strategy, set on a fairly large playing field (around six square kilometres), and with total freedom.

Beyond the individual combat feats (close to flight or tank simulation sequences, cockpit views), it’s often necessary to devise a strategy, coordinating different types of units. For instance, you can program the autopilot to carry out a coordinated attack.
Let’s also praise the inclusion of day/night cycles, which could make developing night vision technology one of your priorities…

The brutally difficult level will turn off more than a few, as will the incomprehensible interface and the multitude of keyboard shortcuts, making the thick manual a must-read. However, the numerous options make it an original and compelling title, provided you’re persistent and capable of juggling everything at once.

(*) Note that the two-player mode required two Amiga computers connected by a network cable.

A sequel was released in 1994: Armour-Geddon 2: Codename Hellfire.
