The sequel to Barbarian, now playable with a joystic. It’s far easier to handle and more focused on combat rather than avoiding traps. The animations are particularly polished, although the hero still looks a bit stiff.
The game involves exploring dungeons while indulging your primal instincts, i.e., smashing everything that moves. You have access to about ten different weapons, ranging from a dagger to a heavy double-edged axe. Along the way, you’re free to rob the good people, even if it alerts the city guards. The money you collect can be spent at the local tavern or to upgrade your arsenal, because after smashing so many skulls, your weapons wear out and eventually break. The tough life of a barbarian…
I really like the variety of weapons, the range of moves you can perform, and the ability to attack from a distance and parry. What I don’t like … is when the character gets hit and doesn’t respond for a second. It’s especially hard to escape a fight when you’re up against two or three enemies at once. And when the enemies are those tiny, untouchable, clawed little shits in the cave level… Prepare to be torn to shreds like an old rag.
