The adaptation of the arcade title of the same name (1988), likely influenced by the game Shoot Out (arcade, 1985). You control a soldier (or two) from a third-person perspective, storming military camps and shooting anything that moves. Ammo is unlimited (grenades aren’t).

The game uses a joystick for controls. You simultaneously move the crosshair (on two axes) and the character (horizontally only). This makes it tricky to hit enemies while dodging their bullets. You can destroy every building in sight, take cover behind foreground objects (also destructible), perform graceful side rolls when the situation calls for it, and don’t forget the iconic victory dance after clearing a level. Take note, Fortnite fans!

Throwing grenades is a bit awkward with the joystick (“down” + “fire”). Aside from that, I find the game responsive and smooth. Dumb and violent too—just the way I like it!

A sequel was released in arcades, with a Wild West theme: Blood Bros. (1990).
Fans might also want to check out a certain Bot Vice (2016).
