The sequel to The Secret of Monkey Island follows a treasure hunt that once again pits our hero, Guybrush Threepwood, against his nemesis, LeChuck…
It’s a joy to revisit the same point & click system that made George Lucas’s studio a legend, packed with witty dialogues, a parade of quirky characters, and challenging puzzles, all presented with flair. The epilogue, in particular, is remarkably ahead of its time.
Given that the game spans eleven floppy disks, installing it on a hard drive is practically a necessity (use WHDLoad or download the “HDF” version from Planet Emulation). Better yet, track down the original PC-DOS version, which offers superior sound and visuals.
The third instalment, The Curse of Monkey Island, was released on PC in 1997, followed by Escape from Monkey Island in 2000 and Tales of Monkey Island in 2009. Meanwhile, revamped editions (completely redrawn and voice-acted) of the first two episodes were released in 2009 and 2010, later bundled together as a “special edition” in 2011.
