An excellent shoot’em up, admittedly not too original (the weapon system and some bosses inevitably remind you of the Gradius series), but still very polished (and very difficult).
At the start, you’ll be asked to choose between three ships with complementary characteristics (fast but under-armed, versatile, or heavily armed but slow). At the bottom of the screen, you’ll see the available upgrades and weapons (from weakest to strongest), which can be exchanged for a certain number of bonuses.
The following year, they’ll release a slightly more accessible version (i.e., completable without cheating) under the title Project X Special Edition. Then came X2 (PlayStation, 1996), still in 2D and also very well made.
