Following a civil war on Earth, a handful of brave souls boarded a shuttle, fired up the gas, and took off! After a long journey, they settled on a remote planet they named New Earth, because they were brave and imaginative.

You are the leader of the descendants of these folks. Not content with your precarious self-sufficiency, you dream of outsourcing! To achieve this, you’ll need to oversee the research and construction of spacecraft, explore nearby planets, build colonies (after exterminating any potential natives), exploit resources… And who knows, maybe you’ll pay a visit to your distant human cousins on their little blue planet … leading an armada of cruisers?

The first impression is good. This Hungarian game, carefully presented, borrows various elements from Millenium 2.2, Supremacy, and Dune 2. The interface, quite simple and readable, shouldn’t require you to consult the manual. Anyway, you won’t face any (alien) attacks until you’ve reached an advanced level of development. So, mistakes are allowed in the beginning.

Unfortunately, Reunion succumbs to the same flaws as its models: repetitive and tedious tasks, linear development, and a lack of depth. I’d add to that some ridiculous and pointless mini-dialogues (with advisors or random persons in a bar), and a lack of interaction with our secondary colonies (they never get attacked, and you can’t build anything on-site). Eventually, the looping music, alert windows, and robot voices drive you insane. I’ve uninstalled antivirus software for less!

There’s an AGA version, featuring more sound effects, more colours (the difference isn’t exactly obvious) … and more floppy disks! The images below refer to this. I strongly recommend the PC version, translated and dubbed in French. If you prefer playing on WinUAE, a tip: avoid save states.
