Run The Gauntlet was a British TV show from the ’80s that featured spectacular sports challenges (often improbable vehicle races, preferably huge and dangerous, on bumpy tracks, in the mud, or on water; sometimes also foot obstacle courses).
Here’s the video game version. Three national teams compete (among England, the USA, the Netherlands, and Australasia) in buggy races, jet-ski races, or endurance courses … all amid bombardments, judging by the explosions on the track.
Note that the AI-controlled competitors are irresistible forces impervious to the laws of physics. So, don’t bother trying to run into them in hopes of throwing them off course … and if one of them tries to overtake you, it’s better to politely get out of the way. Quite a strange race!
One question: in this kind of game, what’s the point of alternating multiplayer?
