Formally titled NightHawk F-117A Stealth Fighter 2.0, this game follows on from F-19 Stealth Fighter. The difference? A NightHawk F-117A instead of the F-19. Am I right?

I guess so. Despite an upgraded presentation and the addition of night missions, this feels more like an update than a true sequel. A small nod to gameplay over realism, though: you can choose between a “MicroProse” version of the F-117A (more fun, meaning better armed, especially for air combat) or the authentic model, largely limited to ground strikes. Plenty of other parameters are customisable, and a training mode makes its debut (no, that doesn’t mean you can skip the manual, which weighs about as much as a dictionary).

The overall impression is one of quality and polish, but let’s not kid ourselves—there’s no adrenaline-pumping action here. After all, your job is to avoid enemy forces as much as possible. The lukewarm atmosphere could’ve used more exciting mission briefings to liven things up.

The Amiga version offers a wealth of additional scenarios compared to the original PC release from two years earlier (the Gulf War happened in the meantime). Two of these are borrowed from another MicroProse title, F-15 Strike Eagle 2. There’s even a “futuristic” scenario where you can relive the Korean War … in 1997!

Installation on an Amiga hard drive (Workbench) is recommended.
