The first instalment of the famous police adventure game series, originally developed for PC (by a former police officer).

You play as Sonny Bonds, a peacekeeper stationed at the Lytton Police Department (California). Your noble duty, or rather your unavoidable burden, is traffic control. But today’s patrol promises to be more eventful than usual, taking you on the trail of a dangerous drug dealer…

The gameplay mirrors that of Leisure Suit Larry: you move around using the mouse while typing phrases or keywords in English to perform actions. The investigation is rigidly linear. You’re expected to follow the police procedural code to the letter (reading the manual will shed light on this). Overlook the tiniest detail, and the adventure will come to an abrupt—often dramatic—end. This translates into a series of repetitive actions, requiring a lot of patience, but it also creates a realistic atmosphere.

The game was re-released in 1992 on PC, boasting significant graphical and audio upgrades (plus the addition of a mouse-driven interface). I’d recommend that version.
