Transformed into an owl (the mascot of the publisher Psygnosis), you must battle hordes of demonic creatures in a decidedly grim universe, somewhat reminiscent of Shadow of the Beast.

Each level is preceded by a magnificent loading screen (demonstration: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6). During the game, breathtaking landscapes scroll by in multiple layers. The character animation is also quite impressive. Strangely, the monsters didn’t receive the same attention (their dull colours actually make them hard to distinguish from the background). Amid this visual onslaught, the owl’s projectiles—static and monochrome (presumably to speed up the rate of fire)—look rather out of place.
As for the music, the superb piano introduction stands out. After that, the “symphonic” themes quickly become irritating.
Finally, the lack of a two-player mode and the limited number of bonuses make the action rather monotonous.
