Fly to victory against Satan’s hordes. Can’t say it any better myself.

It’s a visually pleasant and responsive shoot’em up … but dull. The lack of music plays a big part, as does the rather uninspired level design.

You control Perseus, astride Pegasus, the winged horse, hurling fireballs or daggers at waves of demonic creatures, flanked by pesky flying pests that somehow always manage to slip through your shots…

Defeated enemies occasionally drop crystals, which you can collect and exchange for new weapons (press “Space” when the icon at the bottom left changes). Another bonus grants you charged attacks by holding the fire button (with limited uses).

Every other level, Perseus hops off his steed and draws his sword for a platforming/action interlude reminiscent of Rastan (arcade, 1987). These sequences feel bland and highly repetitive, despite, once again, spot-on responsiveness—something rare enough to deserve a mention. I do like the hero’s animation, though; his cape swirls gracefully with every move.

Pegasus boasts 50 levels that reek of repetition (same enemies, same backgrounds). Thankfully, passwords are provided, but I’d have preferred a shorter, more varied game with a proper soundtrack to keep things lively.

The little horse in the stormy weather,
Oh, how brave he was indeed…
