Years ago, when you were just a little child, wizards kidnapped you and placed you in an evil temple. Using their magic and potions, they turned you into a monster-warrior in the service of Maletoth, the beastly god. Upon reaching adulthood, and after a human sacrifice, you recognise your father’s face on the altar. Your memories come rushing back all at once. You vow to take revenge and slaughter your former masters to the last…
Shadow of the Beast is memorable for several reasons: its eerie, fantastical atmosphere, its breathtaking backgrounds for the time (animated across multiple layers); and its opening music is among the finest ever heard on the Amiga. However, once the charm of the intro fades, the game boils down to moving in a straight line, smashing anything that moves. On top of that, the difficulty will put off even the bravest.
